Jeffrey C. O’Shaughnessy, JD, is senior vice president and global chief underwriting officer at Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company (HSB). He has been in this role since February 2017.

Mr. O’Shaughnessy is responsible for defining the group’s underwriting appetite, ensuring that the portfolio of business stays true to that appetite, empowering the field underwriting organization to make decisions within that framework and managing the underwriting services organization. He has also been involved in a number of projects that are helping to modernize and automate many of HSB’s internal and external processes.

In addition, he is a member of the board of directors of HSB’s international insurance affiliates, HSB BI&I in Canada and HSB Engineering Insurance Limited in the U.K.

From 2012 to 2017, Mr. O’Shaughnessy served as the chief underwriting officer of HSB’s Treaty division in charge of Treaty underwriting and product management.

Mr. O’Shaughnessy joined Hartford Steam Boiler in December 2002 as assistant vice president of product development. In this capacity, he led the development and enhancement efforts of a number of HSB’s strategic products.

Prior to joining HSB, Mr. O’Shaughnessy spent four years at Royal & SunAlliance and four years at American International Group in various underwriting management roles in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mr. O’Shaughnessy holds an undergraduate degree in history from Boston College and a law degree from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts.
