    Head of the Custom Accounts Division (CAD)

    Peter Richter is Head of the Custom Accounts Division (CAD). He is a Board Member and has oversight responsibility for The Boiler Inspection & Insurance Company (Canada).

    In both the US and Canada, Mr. Richter is leading organizational change in high-growth markets by fostering a diverse and inclusive talent pool and focusing on opportunities built on core HSB and Munich Re capabilities, such as solutions for carbon credits markets addressing climate change. In leading CAD, there is a strong focus on providing meaningful risk solutions to HSB’s agents, brokers and client companies through the application of new technology for digital integration, new products that address modern technology-driven risks, and new data sources to enhance HSB’s leadership in predicting and preventing loss. CAD is dedicated to bringing best in class innovative risk solutions to the marketplace.

    Prior to his current role, Mr. Richter served as HSB Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2012 to November 2022. He also led several business-critical endeavors such as creating the business case for HSB’s Internet of Things strategy and leading the acquisition of Meshify and relayr. He also built out the Data and Analytics function at HSB as part of Finance, and he created the Strategic Corporate Ventures concept and rolled it out for HSB. In addition, he developed and took on a leadership role for the HSB Group Transformation program.

    Mr. Richter was Head of the Corporate Finance Mergers and Acquisitions Department from 2010 to 2012 in Munich Re where he was responsible for the execution of Groupwide acquisitions and divestitures, as well as the foundation of new ventures outside Europe. During 2009, he was the integration officer at HSB responsible for the integration of the company into Munich Re.

    Since joining Munich Re in 2002, Mr. Richter held positions of increasing responsibility in Munich Re’s Corporate Finance division including Financial Controlling of the international reinsurance organization, capital management, and mergers and acquisitions.

    Mr. Richter received a Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia. He holds a Master of Science in International Finance from the University of Illinois, a Master of Business Administration from the Technical University of Berlin and is a graduate of the College of Banking and Insurance in Berlin, Germany.
