Our International Graduate Trainee Programme is a fast-paced and exciting journey into one of the most varied and fascinating sectors out there – the world of reinsurance. As a trainee, you will experience the breadth and depth of a business that enables companies and individuals all over the world to pursue bold goals with confidence.
As you rotate through departments, you will tackle real-world challenges in a supportive environment and with a global network of Munich Re experts at your finger tips. The programme is designed for maximum career impact. It takes you straight to the heart of your chosen career in insurance – as a Risk Analyst, Underwriter, Actuary, Claims Manager – or Cyber, IoT or Data Analytics Specialist. Focal points and training objectives vary from site to site and from business unit to business unit.

Training on the Job
Your trainee programme starts in one of our specialist reinsurance divisions or in a central division at Munich Re. Over a period of 20 months, you will learn the practical basics of working in reinsurance and support experienced colleagues in innovative projects and their daily work. You will be an equal team member from the very beginning and support us at eye level.

Training off the Job
Off-the-job training comes in various formats, from presentations to case studies, workshops in person or virtual and e-learnings. A high-impact learning format is Graduate Reinsurance International Development (GRID) Program, which is a global curriculum all our international trainees are attend. This is where you can grow your peer network, connect with trainee colleagues and develop your communication, negotiation and social skills (further).

Individual Local Modules
Local modules round off the programme´s core curriculum. For example, you will actively gain additional experience and background knowledge in other departments or learn in seminars. Depending on your chosen career path, we will support you in expanding your language skills and acquiring additional professional qualifications, for example as a financial analyst (CFA), executive master of insurance (EMI) or actuary.

International assignment
Over a period of three months, you will work closely with your international colleagues at one of our business units abroad. You will explore local business practices, gain insights into other work cultures and gain a better understanding of our international reinsurance business. This unique experience prepares you for the cross-border cooperation that characterizes our work at Munich Re.

- University degree with above-average grades
- Internship experience, ideally in insurance or the financial services sector
- Intercultural experience earned during a stay abroad of at least several months
- Excellent English language skills and, ideally, knowledge of another foreign language

Selection process
After we have received your documents, we will invite you via email to complete an online test. Selected candidates will continue to the next step of the process. It consists of an interview, followed by an individual evaluation at our assessment centre. If your skills and personality are a good fit for us, we will discuss with you when you can start to work for us. In general, you can enter at any time.

Requirements

To maintain our leading position, we are selective about both technical aptitude and wider leadership skills.
The successful candidates join our two-year International Graduate Programme. The programme will prepare you for the diverse challenges of reinsurance business, and lay the foundations for your continued development in one of the most varied and fascinating industries.
Requirements
- An above-average university degree (2:1 or higher)
- Practical work experience, ideally in the insurance/financial industry, i.e. internship, part-time position, shadowing, volunteering
- Sense of responsibility and open mindedness proven by social activities and team work
- Global mindset, i.e. keen to obtain international experience and a broader perspective
- Excellent English language skills and ideally another foreign language
- Skills such as; Excellent communication ability, strong numerical and analytical skills, empathy and willingness to learn and a proficient user of Microsoft Office software

Assessment Centre
Our Graduate Assessment Centres run for a full day. The day will include a high-level introduction to Munich Re business from a senior representative and further info on our graduate programme before beginning the exercises. You can expect the following assessments throughout the day
- Aptitude tests, e.g. actuarial test, verbal reasoning, case study exercise, etc.
- Group exercise
- Individual interview with 5-minute pre-prepared presentation
There will also be opportunities to meet previous and current graduates and other representatives within the business.
