Certified inspection services for equipment and property

Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB) is an industry leader in the inspection of boilers, pressure vessels and other types of equipment - dating to the very beginning of our company over 150 years ago. We believe that loss is not inevitable - it can be prevented. This principle has been at the heart of our company from the beginning. In fact, inspections and loss prevention came first at HSB, with our insurance backing up the judgment of our inspectors.

We are still helping our customers prevent losses with a variety of inspection services for equipment and property, meeting the needs of individual clients and property-casualty insurance companies by offering:

  • Jurisdictional inspections of boilers and pressure vessels
  • Property-casualty inspections and surveys
  • Risk assessment surveys
  • Loss prevention inspections
  • Infrared electrical surveys
  • Transformer oil analysis

We maintain a nationwide inspection force of full time HSB National Board commissioned resources to provide jurisdictional inspections at client facilities.

Our inspectors are among the most experienced in the industry and have a reputation for being knowledgeable and thorough. Following rigorous training and testing, our inspectors are certified by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors.

Where other insurers may not include this service, or charge extra for an inspection, Hartford Steam Boiler makes jurisdictional inspections a built-in benefit of our equipment breakdown coverage. HSB's nationwide network of inspectors complete more than 500,000 inspections each year.

HSB customers can either call our Inspection Hot Line toll free, at 1-800-333-4677 (1-800-333-INSP) 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday, complete our online Inspection Request Form or email us at
