Cyberattack on equipment is a growing risk that businesses need to manage to avoid major disruptions and financial losses.

    The growing issue

Today’s sensitive, high-tech equipment is increasingly connected, able to share data with other equipment and company computers that store confidential company information. If hackers breach a company’s cybersecurity, not only can they access company and employee data but they can potentially:

    • Gain control of the equipment until a ransom is paid
    • Damage, destroy, or reconfigure equipment
    • Interrupt workflows and stop production
    • Cause loss of business and reputation

    The HSB solution

Businesses can be protected against both through HSB. As a leading specialty insurer, we offer Commercial Cyber insurance (link to Cyber Suite page) and Equipment Breakdown (EB) insurance (link to EB page). Bundled together, they can ensure policyholders:

    • Avoid gaps in coverage and have a more seamless claims process (HSB claims coordinates both the Cyber and EB adjustments)
    • Are covered for equipment breakdowns caused by a cyber event
    • Get risk management solutions to help predict and help prevent both breakdowns and cyber events

    $11,430
    total paid loss after deductible

A manufacturing company suffered a three-day shutdown and the resulting loss of business income because of a cyber event.

A hacker gained access into the company’s administration network and crossed over into its production equipment computer control system. The hacker then blocked the control system from shutting down the production line, causing the system to overheat and fail.  The company was forced to shut down for three days to replace several motors. The total paid loss after deductible was $11,430.
