The focus of the artistic work of photographer Frank Darius (born 1963 in Berlin) is on detailed insights into nature, which he captures objectively without manipulative interventions. He describes himself as a poet of the everyday, committed to a romantic aesthetic by giving “the ordinary a mysterious reputation” (Novalis). For example, Darius chooses as his motifs small, delicate blossoms and twigs in front of a dark sky. The longer exposure time required for this results in slight blurs caused by the movement of the branches in the wind. Other areas, however, appear razor-sharp. This juxtaposition of sharpness and blur creates a painterly, almost poetic effect. The delicate colouration creates the impression of a dream sequence and inspires one to let one’s thoughts run free – as in the photo work Blossoms.

Frank Darius’s work makes it clear that it is often nature that inspires meditative reflection. Emblematic of this is the garden, which is considered the ideal image of cultivated nature shaped by man, and which invites its visitors to wander and contemplate.

In 1993, his works were shown for the first time in the solo exhibition ”Fremdes Zuhause”. Darius also published his first book project under the same title.
