Albert Weis (born 1969 in Passau) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich from 1989 to 1997. A minimalist aesthetic is evident in many of his works, which explore the relationship between space, architecture and the urban environment. Weis places particular emphasis on subtle details, thereby highlighting the beauty of everyday materials and forms.

Foldings are a central motif of Albert Weis, who uses them to refer to recurring themes in culture, art and philosophy. In his works Folder #105 and Folder #106, the accordion-like structure creates a complex play of light and shadow that gives the works depth and movement, while radiating harmony and rhythm. The folding can be the result of a simple, quick hand movement, but it can also be the result of a complex, precise technique that can transform a two-dimensional surface into a three-dimensional form. Thus, with each fold and crease, a new space is created, a different perspective, a changing direction, an inside and an outside.

Albert Weis was Professor of Artistic Design at the University of Kaiserslautern in 2002/03 and held teaching positions at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam in 2004 and at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle in 2016, among others. In 2022, he was awarded the Villa Romana Art Prize.
