    Q&A

Munich Re operates an office in Madrid at Paseo de Recoletos 37, 28004 Madrid, Spain, located at the center of the Spanish insurance market.
Our Madrid office primarily serves Spain and Portugal, while also supporting selected markets across Southern Europe and Latin America. Acting as a regional hub, it facilitates close coordination between the Iberian markets and Munich Re’s wider Europe & Latin America platform, especially for cross-border and multinational insurance programs.
Our Madrid team mainly partners with primary insurers and brokers in Spain and Portugal across mature and emerging market segments. We also work with specialty carriers, manage multinational insurance programs, and provide tailored risk transfer solutions for corporate and public-sector clients—especially where complex or non-standard risks are involved.
We pay special attention to secondary natural perils like flooding, droughts, heat-driven wildfires, and severe convective storms. From Madrid, we support insurers with risk modeling, accumulation analysis, and customized reinsurance structures, reflecting how these perils are becoming key drivers of losses in Spain and Portugal beyond the traditional peak risks.
We offer comprehensive Life & Health reinsurance solutions that cover mortality, morbidity, disability, and longevity risks. These help insurers navigate demographic shifts, medical cost trends, and capital needs while supporting sustainable product development in both Spain and Portugal.
Specialty insurance and reinsurance are growing rapidly in Spain, particularly around liability, technical risks, energy, construction, renewable energy, and cyber risks. Munich Re delivers dedicated underwriting expertise and reliable capacity to support Spain’s expanding infrastructure projects and energy transition efforts.
Cyber risk is one of the fastest-growing and least diversified exposures for Iberian insurers. We provide cyber reinsurance capacity, underwriting expertise, and risk insights that reflect the interconnected nature of digital supply chains and the threat of systemic loss events. From Madrid, we monitor cyber risk trends closely as digital transformation accelerates across industries in Spain and Portugal.
