    2023 highlights

On September 12-13 and November 15-16 GMP members from different regions and business fields virtually came together to share their real-life leadership challenges, to coach and consult each other. The sessions were facilitated by executive coach Nicola Madjno, who provided expertise and guidance relevant to the challenges brought to the table. After two sessions of intensive work, GMPs gained practical and implementable solutions to the cases they had discussed.

The theme for the 'Peer Consulting' in 2023 was centred around motivation and collaboration. In 2024 'Peer Consulting' will focus on Inclusive Leadership and we have two offerings scheduled: June 4-6 in Mumbai and September 18-19 in Munich.

On 25 September, Mike Kerner, Member of the Board of Management Munich Re, hosted an interactive session with a number of GMPs across the group. The 'Speak Up!' kicked off with a roundtable focused on the engagement survey and how we continue to break down silos, followed by a further roundtable on GSI culture, strategy and transformation, wrapping up with a discussion on diversity and talent mobility.

Mike also asked for the groups’ insights on GSI from across different business areas and highlighted the importance of utilising talent programs, like GMP, to continue to break down silos through people.

Our next 'Speak Up!' is scheduled with Andree Moschner on June 20, 2024.

On October 18-19, a group of nine GMPs from ERGO and Munich RE came together in the ERGO headquarters in Düsseldorf to participate in the 'Leader as a Coach' training, which was a newly designed format in 2023. The session was facilitated by Obi James, an experienced inclusion and leadership expert, and executive coach.

Across the interactive two days the group had an opportunity to learn about different coaching scenarios and techniques, interact with Dr. Lena Lindemann, Chief Human Resources Officer and Member of the Board of Management ERGO Group AG at lunch, and meet Dr. Oliver Wilmes, Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Board of Management ERGO International AG, over dinner.

With overwhelmingly positive feedback for this first-time format, we look forward to inviting the next two groups to the training in Singapore on July 10-11 and in New York on October 23-24, 2024.

On November 2, Sasha Scott, CEO Inclusive Group, conducted a virtual session on inclusive leadership for a group of GMPs. The session covered a range of fundamental DEI topics, while also delving into the impact of a leader's role in creating an inclusive team environment.

Some key themes that emerged from the Session include:

    • The importance of focusing on inclusion, not just diversity, for genuine change and impact
    • The critical role of the Board in setting the tone for other leaders in this area
    • Real-world examples of being an 'upstander' and effectively managing difficult scenarios with your peers, team, and superiors
    • The positive impact of vulnerability and storytelling on your teams

During breakout sessions, peers had the opportunity to explore their personal definitions of inclusive leadership and discuss common challenges faced by leaders across the Group.

From November 6 to 9, we held our second flagship Pitstop event in 2023 where our GMP members spent 3.5 days at Hult EF Corporate Education in the UK. A popular development format for GMPs for several years, the second Pitstop event this year saw much enthusiasm and tremendous participation and healthy competition in the final activity. Set in the beautiful castle grounds of Ashridge House, GMPs spent a few days engaging with leading facilitators on various topics, including resilience, stress management (including wearing a heart monitor), performance under pressure, the GROW model, peer feedback, and coaching.

Georg Bachmaier, Global Head of Talent, spent time with our GMPs before the Pitstop activity, sharing the Group’s talent management priorities and discussing Future Re levers.

Stefan Golling, Member of the Board of Management, Munich Re, joined the group for dinner and networking, providing his insights on the value of talent mobility and the strength of functional expertise, subsequently followed by diversification. Feedback from across the group remained consistently positive, with a key theme being the ability to step back, pause and reflect on oneself.

We look forward to welcoming the next group of GMPs to Ashridge House from May 13 to 16, 2024.

On November 7-8, a small group of GMPs met in Singapore for our recently revamped 'Leadership Presence' workshop – the second workshop of its kind in 2023.

The session was led by preeminent communication and leadership expert, Mark Albas.

Over the course of two interactive days, the group explored key topics such as the physicality of presence, breathwork techniques, cultural nuances of presence, storytelling, personal impact and also experienced group feedback coaching.

The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive and with this we are excited to welcome the next two groups to our workshops in New York on March 19-20 and in Düsseldorf on October 8-9, 2024.
