    General description

As AI takes on a greater role in critical business decisions, the risk associated with inaccurate or flawed AI output becomes more significant. Such errors can lead to operational losses for businesses and potential harm for customers, partners or other third parties.

Even the best-trained AI models make mistakes, due to the probabilistic nature of their predictions. Moreover, any error that an AI causes is systematic in nature, meaning it will continue to make the same mistakes until they are identified and corrected. However, the question as to how existing insurance policies protect insureds if AI goes wrong remains unanswered. Today, selected players in the insurance market have started to discuss and even include exclusions in policies for AI-related losses. Conversely, although still sparse, affirmative coverage for AI risks does exist. The Insure AI team at Munich Re has been insuring the performance risks of AI models since 2018.

This session examines key AI exposures, exploring how Munich Re’s innovative insurance solutions can help businesses navigate these emerging risks and adopt AI with greater confidence.
