Munich Re has enjoyed business relations with the Chinese insurance market since 1956. In 1997, two representative offices were set up in Beijing and Shanghai. In October 2003, the Beijing Branch officially opened, becoming the first international reinsurer to receive a composite reinsurance operating licence in China and signifying a new milestone in Munich Re’s business development in the promising yet extremely challenging Chinese market.
