What is something exciting you are working on?
I am currently working on a project of risk assessment that is related to suppliers failing to deliver goods on time. This is a major issue in the global supply chain, because it leads to business interruptions for many companies. Eventually, Munich Re will be able to insure those companies against business interruption. Through this project, I get to directly work with other experts on a topical issue that is impacting the global economy.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
What excites me is the fact that my work is not only about data, but that it is directly linked to our business. I really like handling data and gaining insights from it. What good would that do if it didn't benefit the broader organisation? Compared to other industries, the insurance industry is slow in leveraging data. Munich Re is very active in utilizing it, which gives me the opportunity to add a lot of value to the company.

We are dedicated to empower the organisation with access to data and leverage new business opportunities. We develop machine learning models and analytical solutions and provide analytical consulting for our internal and external clients. We collaborate closely with international business units and various central units within the innovation and IT. We build new data and AI-centric business models and explore future technologies, like quantum computing, in a strong ecosystem of academic and industry partners.

What do you like most about working at Munich Re?
From the very beginning when I joined Munich Re as an intern, I was surprised by the willingness to help each other. At that time I had to work on a thesis about natural disaster-related capital market instruments and a colleague gave me an in-depth intro that exceeded university standards, while meeting for a coffee. During the many years at Munich Re, I learned about the importance and appreciation of sharing knowledge.
