Miner Rescue Insurance
Insurance solution for high risk mining operations
Miner Rescue Insurance provides essential financial support during catastrophic underground or open pit incidents, helping companies respond quickly, responsibly, and effectively, subject to policy terms, conditions and limits. Through our Lloyd’s consortium, we will be able to offer rescue insurance solutions to mining operators across different geographies.
A unique insurance solution for miner rescue risks
The first party coverage is designed to fund the cost of rescuing trapped miners or contractors as agreed on the policy. It fills critical gaps left by traditional casualty and property insurance by offering a trigger that responds when individuals are trapped underground and unable to reach the surface. Coverage continues until the rescue operation is completed or formally declared impossible, with media related expenses supported for an additional 14 days thereafter.
Coverage and limits
This cover is designed to support mining operations following an incident involving workers or contractors trapped underground and may include the coordination of rescue and recovery efforts, access to specialist equipment and personnel, operational and logistical support, temporary accommodation for families and response teams, assistance with the restoration of mine operations, and support for media, community and investor communications. The availability of specialist resources may help facilitate a timely and coordinated response when access to affected individuals is required.
