Privacy statement

Protecting your privacy and personal data is important to us. As we want to avoid collecting personal data about you without your knowledge and express consent, below is a description of the kind of information we would record and the purposes for which we would use it.

What information do we record and for what purposes
do we use it?

You have the option to use our internet service essentially anonymously. Munich Re does not save personal or person-relatable data (for example, IP addresses) of site users. When you visit our internet pages, we collect anonymised data for analysis of user behavior (such as the date, time, pages visited, navigation, and software used) by an external service provider acting on our behalf ( "anonymised user data"). The data are anonymised prior to being stored by the service provider.

If you give us your personal information, we will treat it confidentially in accordance with data protection regulations  applicable at the Company's headquarters. If you send us an e-mail or fill out an online form on our website and send it to us, we will process your specified personal data (e.g. your name or e-mail address) exclusively for correspondence with you in order to send you the requested documents or information, or for the other purposes mentioned in the applicable form. This personal information will not be disclosed to third parties. Areas of our website that are reserved for users with special access (such as the Shareholder Portal) and that record additional personal data for technical and/or legal reasons, contain a special notice to inform visitors of this fact.

Use of Cookies

Munich Re uses cookies. These help us to control and optimize the user-friendliness of the site. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer and save certain settings and data for exchange with our system via your browser. When you open individual pages, we use temporary cookies (so-called “session cookies”) to facilitate navigation. These session cookies do not contain personal data and are deleted after the session.

We also collect information on the use of our website through the use of so-called “browser cookies”, which help us to improve our website and offer you a better and more tailored service. They enable us to recognize your computer when you return to our site and thereby make any previous settings available  or store information about your favorite activities on the site in order to tailor our website to your individual interests. This includes for example the choice of the language in which our website will be presented to you.

Only the above-mentioned information about your use of the Website is stored in the cookies we use. The information is not linked to you personally, but rather an identification number is assigned to the cookie ("cookie-ID"). A merger of the cookie ID with your name, IP address or similar information that would allow an assignment of cookies to you personally does not take place, unless you have given your consent to Munich Re.

You are basically free to decide whether to allow or disable cookies in your browser settings. You can delete cookies already on your computer. It is only essential in a few areas of our site (for example, online application, contact forms, shareholder portal) that your browser allows session cookies in order to ensure a secure connection.

Protective measures

We take appropriate, up-to-date technical and organisational security measures to protect data against accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, or destruction, and against access by unauthorised persons.

We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to protect any information you enter in dialog forms on our web pages. SSL encryption protects the data you send us against unauthorised third-party access. For your own security, please always use these dialog forms. If you send us unencrypted data in a standard, unprotected e-mail, it is possible that unauthorised persons may gain knowledge of or modify your data while it is being transferred through the internet.
