A stack of blank white paper sits on a reflective surface, creating a clean and minimalistic backdrop. A bright red pencil rests alongside the paper, its sharpened tip pointing outward. Above the stack, a crumpled piece of white paper, marked with pink scribbles, adds a touch of creativity and imperfection to the scene.

Since the July 1 issue of 2025 American Society of Mechanical Engineers “ASME” BPV Code (the “Code”), at least 30 separate Errata and Notices have been issued for most of Code sections as well as Code Case books.

Errata and Notices are posted on the ASME website to provide corrections to incorrectly published items or to correct typographical or grammatical errors in the Code. Such errata shall be used on the date posted.

Although the overwhelming majority of these reported “errors” may be inconsequential, chances are you may not be aware of them as there is no system to automatically inform Code users of their existence.

To keep up with the Errata and Notices as they are issued, you can visit http://go.asme.org/BPVCerrata to select your ASME BPV Code Section(s) of interest and register your email address.

If you are a Section I Boiler External Piping (BEP) Manufacturer, you will need to register separately for ASME B31.1 Errata and Notices at https://cstools.asme.org/csconnect/CommitteePages.cfm?Committee=N10020200&CommitteeErrata=yes

SNT-TC-1A 2024 Edition for 2025 ASME BPV Code Use

By now, users of the Code that directly reference Section V, Article 1 for qualification of Nondestructive Examination (NDE) personnel, such as Section VIII, Divisions 1 and 2, are aware that the 2025 Code has adopted the 2024 Edition of American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Recommended Practice SNT-TC-1A Personnel Qualification and Certification in Nondestructive Testing.

When visiting asnt.org to purchase the document, you may have noticed two separate SNT-TC-1A 2024 versions and were wondering which one to purchase.

ASME administratively approved SNT-TC-1A-2024 in December 2024 for reference in the 2025 Edition of Boiler Code Section V. Subsequent to that approval, ASNT released Errata, an Addendum (May 2025) and an Appendix C, all of which were not reviewed by ASME prior to the July 1, 2025, issue date of the BPV Code.

The SNT-TC-1A 2024 version administratively approved by ASME and in compliance with the 2025 Edition of ASME Section V, para. T-120(e)(1), is the “without Addendum” version available at https://source.asnt.org/10197na-asnt-tc-1a-2024. This version incorporates the Errata.

The Section V Standards Committee approved the following as yet unpublished Interpretation at its November 2025 meeting:

    BPV Section V - 2025 (INQUIRY): Article 1, Para. T-120(e)(1); SNT-TC-1A (2024) ERRATA and Addendum

Question (1): For an employer’s written practice that meets the requirements of Article 1, para. T-120(e)(1), shall the written practice meet the requirements of Errata – first printing 04/24 for ASNT Recommend Practice No. SNT-TC-1A (2024)?

    Reply (1): Yes.

Question (2): For an employer’s written practice that meets the requirements of Article 1, para. T-120(e)(1), shall the written practice meet the requirements of Addendum – third printing 05/25 for ASNT Recommend Practice No. SNT-TC-1A (2024)?

    Reply (2): No.

Section V Standards Committee did not address the addition of Appendix C to SNT-TC-1A 2024, as it is nonmandatory.
