James Sanzone is the Vice President, Head of Marine Cargo at Munich Re Specialty – North America. Since joining the Munich Re New York office, James has played an instrumental role in strengthening our cargo capabilities and supporting brokers with flexible solutions for complex transit risks. In his VP role, he leads the development of our marine cargo offering, while advancing our strategy to expand admitted capabilities for the Ocean Marine product line.

James brings a unique blend of maritime operational experience and insurance expertise. A graduate of SUNY Maritime College (Class of 2017), he holds a U.S. Coast Guard Unlimited Tonnage Third Mate license and served in the United States Navy Reserve. Before entering the insurance sector, he sailed with Seabulk and Crowley, gaining firsthand operational insight into global shipping and logistics.

Today, James underwrites marine cargo business as a Lloyd’s coverholder for Munich Re Syndicate 457, supporting brokers and clients with disciplined underwriting, technical expertise, and a partnership-driven approach to risk management.
