    2024: Regional highlights Q1+2

Leadership Values webinar “We lead the WE”

In April, APAC/MEA provided the first of the 2024 Leadership Values webinars for Oxygenians focused on “We Lead the WE” and specifically how “We create an inclusive environment where different thoughts, generations, cultures and experiences are valued and encouraged.” Globally, the workforce today is different and intergenerational tensions, misunderstandings and stereotyping have significantly increased, impacting productivity, engagement, attrition and more. In this webinar, participants learned about the latest research on multigenerational workforces and discussed the impact on talent management and company culture. The webinar dived into three key concepts to help Oxygenians to win and grow together as a team:

    • Learn and Unlearn - Appreciate the reasons for the differences among generations while letting go of stereotypes to address common leadership pitfalls.
    • Make it Matter - Engage and motivate individuals based on what drives them personally by creating a culture of psychological safety.
    • Communicate and Collaborate: Demonstrate greater flexibility of different modes of communication and strategies to align with generational trends and technology.

APAC/MEA Talent week 2024 for Oxygen Cohort 2022 in Singapore (28th-30th May)

The aim of Oxygen Talent Week 2024 was to build on core skills that are applicable to all Oxygenians whatever the main focus of their Oxygen Development Plan. The three days concentrated on activities for participants to learn about their thinking preferences and develop their executive presence, leadership and influencing skills, collaboration and networking. The group also participated in the “Hour of Power” CSR challenge where they learned more about energy poverty and built solar-powered lights to be distributed to communities in Southeast Asia through SolarBuddy.

Twenty-four of the thirty Oxygenians from across APAC/MEA attended (three from the 2022 cohort attended in 2023). Our opening speakers were Hydrogen alumni Serene Chan and Sagar Sahay, who shared their leadership journeys and advice, and also hosted an interactive session discussing how the Oxygenians have been progressing with their development cases.  On the evening of day two, we were joined for a networking dinner by nine Singapore- based leaders: Gavin Maistry, Tobias Frenz, Aravind Srinivas, Surbhi Goel, Sagar Sahay, Richard Saggers, Richard Fothergill, Jill Hoffman, Maggie Ji, and Han Yan, who kindly rotated around the tables to maximize networking opportunities!

    EU/LA Oxygen Program Launch 2023

In November 2023, the new Europe and Latin America Oxygen program officially launched. Aspiring and current leaders from seven countries came together for the two-day event to kick off the 18-month program for high potential talent in the region.

The group spent their first day exploring how to cultivate a growth mindset, enabling them to advance their leadership development aspirations and take charge of their Oxygen journeys. Day two centred on the art of becoming a self-aware leader, helping them understand how they can positively influence others through their leadership roles.

Expanding this year’s program across the Europe and Latin America region promises not only collaboration opportunities, but an abundance of experiences and perspectives from this diverse and energetic cohort.

In April, the new EU/LA Oxygen Cohort convened for their second in-person learning convention in Madrid. Over two days, participants delved into the meaning of Leadership Values at Munich Re, and their application of them in leadership roles. The event began with a session featuring Achim Kassow, Member of the Board of Management, who engaged in a candid discussion about leadership, his career journey, and challenges. This was followed by a townhall addressing DEI, Together@Work, and business priorities. The convention included further deep dives into Munich Re’s Leadership Values, a walking tour of Madrid, and a rooftop networking event.

On day two, a panel discussion with Munich Re leaders from various regions, enriched the understanding and application of our Leadership Values and “how to bring them into action”. The fruitful exchanges and engaging discussions with leaders and colleagues across Europe and Latin America provided a truly valuable experience for all. (click here to read more)

Munich DEI Exchange - Embracing the power of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

In March, Munich hosted a Talent Programs Afterwork event on the topic DEI “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” with our Munich HR DEI colleague Amesteris Amin, who shared the status, progress and outlook on DEI. She inspired the participants to discuss and ideate how to individually create impact and drive the topic in their teams. The exchange was seen as extremely valuable and emphasized the importance our talents place on DEI for Munich Re’s future attractiveness as an employer. Networking events like this provide Oxygenians and alumni with opportunities to broaden their network and learn from each other.

    Oxygen Munich Basecamp

In April, Munich Oxygenians came together for an in-person “Basecamp” at an offsite location near Munich and had the great opportunity to meet and talk to our Global Head of HR, Christine Prendergast, who shared valuable insights about her career and had a very open and honest discussion on a variety of topics around growth and development. It's great to see how talent management is high on the agenda of Munich Re's strategy, and how Oxygen is part of it by providing a framework for colleagues to drive their own development toward leadership in the fast lane.

    North America Oxygen Framework

The US and Canada had a variety of development offers in the first two quarters of the year for Oxygenians in both countries, e.g. Development Action Planning Workshop, Oxygen Virtual Cohort Touchbase, DiSC for Leaders Workshop and a Peer Circle Exchange. Soon, HR will align processes of the Oxygen Program across the US and Canada to create a unified North American footprint, enhancing the participant experience through one shared program standard, cross-border entity networking, and visibility.

    Oxygen Canada Development Days

On June 11th and 12th, 145 Oxygenians from North American Life Health (NALH), Munich Re of Canada (MROC), Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB) Canada and Global IT came together in Toronto for an in-person training and workshops as they progress towards the end of their Oxygen journey. Aside from the training itself, one of the purposes of this gathering is to strengthen networks so leaders can get to know and recognize key talents across the region.

    Upcoming:
Oxygenians will be presenting their learnings and stretch projects
