Many types of businesses and organisations utilise boiler and pressure systems, including autoclaves and air receivers, pressure vessels and refrigeration systems, compressors and hydraulics, power presses and moulding machines, safety valves and various boilers (e.g. café steam boilers, wet back boilers, pressurised hot water boilers, etc); to name a few.

When using pressure systems, Ireland's SI No. 445 of 2012 Regulations place duties on every employer or self-employed person to provide a safe workplace and safe work equipment; with designers, manufacturers, suppliers, installers, users, and owners having additional health and safety duties.

A wide range of equipment is covered by SI No. 445 of 2012 Regulations which, in many cases, are subject to statutory, periodic 'thorough examination' by a 'Competent Person'.

    What is a 'Competent Person'?

The 2005 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act defines a 'Competent Person' "where, having regard to the task he or she is required to perform and taking account of the size or hazards (or both of them) of the undertaking or establishment in which he or she undertakes work, the person possesses sufficient training, experience and knowledge appropriate to the nature of the work to be undertaken".
Our Engineer Surveyors can help businesses achieve regulatory compliance for the following classes of plant and equipment:
    Equipment category Legislation
Boiler/pressure systems S.I. No. 445 of 2012: Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) (Amendment) Regulations 2012
Lifting S.I. No. 299 of 2007: Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007
Electrical/mechanical S.I. No. 299 of 2007 (Regulation 30): Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007
Local exhaust ventilation Health & Safety Authority: Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Guidance document
