Michael Hesse is Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President Enterprise Operations & Engineering of HSB Group. He is responsible for HSB’s global Engineering business comprising Risk Engineering & Inspection Services, Global Inspection & Engineering Services (fee-based inspection and certification services business in 27 countries) and Solomon Associates (leading Benchmarking & Consulting company focusing the global Energy industry). He also oversees HSB’s service operations and overall global operations strategy. He joined HSB in March 2019 from Munich Re Group, HSB's parent company.
At Munich Re Mr. Hesse was Head of Global Reinsurance Strategy and Organization and Deputy Head of the Global Reinsurance Development division. He was responsible for global corporate development and strategy, including property and casualty, life and health, specialty primary insurance, as well as capital markets solutions and M&A strategy. He managed business development initiatives for all Munich Re divisions and entities worldwide for reinsurance, primary commercial and specialty insurance, and alternative risk transfer.
Previously, Mr. Hesse was Head of the Customer Sales and Service Center at ERGO Insurance Group AG, part of Munich Re Group, for all ERGO lines of retail primary insurance in Germany. He was responsible for development, execution and refinement of ERGO's overall customer service strategy, including automation, process efficiency and quality improvement.
Also while at ERGO, Mr. Hesse was Head of ERGO's Operations Consulting Department, an in-house management consulting group focused on international strategy, reorganization and efficiency improvement projects.
From 2006 to 2008, he was a Senior Project Manager at Booz & Company GmbH in Germany for their global financial services practice providing management consulting for large international strategy cases, including acquisitions. In addition, he was a Project Manager at Arthur D. Little GmbH from 2001 to 2006 managing international strategy and restructuring projects in financial services and other industries.
Mr. Hesse received a Diplom-Kaufmann with honors (German equivalent to a master's degree) in business administration and management from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (LMU), School of Management, Munich, Germany in 2001. He also attended the University of California in Santa Barbara, where he studied business economics.
