Global Cyber Risk and Insurance Survey 2026
Cyber-attacks increasingly affect individuals and families. The "Global Cyber Risk and Insurance Survey 2026" by Munich Re reveals the most important cyber concerns and risks in private life and shows the importance of cyber insurance.
Perception gap regarding personal cyber risks
Hacked accounts, identity theft, and online fraud have become common forms of cyberattacks. Despite increasing incident rates and growing damages, risk awareness remains relatively low. Many individuals continue to underestimate the relevance of cyber threats in their own lives, as well as the potential financial and personal consequences.
The fourth edition of the Munich Re study is based on responses from 9,500 participants from 20 countries. It sheds light on current threat trends and the important role of cyber insurance in protecting individuals. The results show: cyber insurance is gaining importance to cover risks and to increase societal resilience.
To fully unlock the potential of personal cyber insurance, increased efforts in explaining risks, demonstrating the value-add of insurance and pushing sales activities are necessary.
