Environmental indicators

As a financial services provider, we have a small environmental footprint compared with that of manufacturing companies. Nevertheless, we work continuously to minimize our emissions and consumption of resources. We make it our priority to conduct our business operations and manage our corporate properties in an environmentally sustainable manner, governed by reasonable financial responsibility, to support the best long-term interests of the company and the environment.

Our resources and consumption reporting relates to the main environmental impacts of financial services providers, namely our consumption of paper, energy and water, the waste we produce, and our greenhouse gas emissions.

  • In 2011, 50% of our renewable energy consumption came from renewable energy certificates purchased from wind turbine generated sources. By the end of 2012, we project that 100% of our renewable energy will come from this source.
  • In 2011, we reduced our energy consumption by 6.0M kWh compared to our 10 year average (1997-2007), enough energy to power 545 homes for one year.
  • Our water usage in 2011 was 43% lower than the five year average (2002-2007) prior to sustainability initiative.
