HSB Supporting Communities

Our affiliate, The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company (HSB) is committed to improving the quality of life in its communities, with particular attention to Hartford, Connecticut, its home for more than 140 years, and the cities where HSB has branch offices.

HSB believes businesses that are dedicated to the community reap more benefits than simply their own prosperity and growth. They help to improve the ultimate bottom-line—life—by creating a place where everyone wants to live, work, and grow.

Direct Corporate Donations
Hartford Steam Boiler's commitment to the community is quite significant relative to its size. HSB's grants benefit a wide range of organizations that affect many facets of life -- the arts, education, health, and civic responsibility. HSB believes that these are the pillars that support a strong, vibrant, and thriving community.

Matching Our Employees’ Charitable Gifts
In addition, HSB has a generous matching gift program that doubles employees' donations to educational and medical organizations and facilities.

Dollars for Doers
HSB also provides grants to charitable organizations in which our employees are actively involved through the Dollars for Doers program.

Workplace Campaigns
Each year, HSB employees raise significant funds through workplace campaigns for the Greater Hartford Arts Council and the United Way Community Campaign, consistently earning a place among the top fundraisers. This is a formidable achievement considering the corporate giants that are based in Hartford. In addition, HSB has one of the highest per capita giving levels in the region.

Supporting Employee Volunteer Efforts
HSB employees also give back to the community through volunteering for charities. Many employees participate in the United Way’s "Day of Caring."  HSB employees also volunteer for many other charities, such as Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Riverfront Recapture, Our Piece of the Pie, and in the school reading program "Everybody Wins!"  The company encourages volunteerism by granting employees paid time off for volunteer activities.
