The power of risk research

Natural catastrophes and especially severe weather events are increasing in frequency and severity all over the world - and the USA is no exception. Concentrations of wealth and assets in exposed areas make the country particularly vulnerable. With sophisticated research in cooperation with leading institutes like IBHS, Munich Re is helping create a better understanding of the risks and how to manage them.

Munich Re has been systematically using research to enhance and share risk knowledge for decades.

The company was one of the first major global corporations to recognise climate change and its role in severe weather events.

Especially in the area of natural catastrophes, research is invaluable in developing methods and technologies for reducing risk. In cooperation with the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), a research institute in the USA, Munich Re is helping find ways of getting buildings and people “weather-ready” - to the benefit of homeowners, communities and the country as a whole.
