Machinery Movement - Insurance

Delegated authority/reinsurance solutions

During a construction project, plant and machinery can be more susceptible to losses during transit and movement.

Theft, fire and damage caused during transit and movement are all common risks and can cause significant interruption to a project if they occur.

Our response

Machinery Movement insurance is designed to cover the loss and damage caused to plant and machinery during the transit and installation process.

Principally targeted at haulage contractors and manufacturers, our element of cover is also relevant to businesses that move and re-site machinery on a regular basis.

Our Machinery Movement coverage provides:

  • cover for one-off moves or an annual basis
  • cover for machinery dismantling, loading, transit, unloading, erection, positioning, re-siting and taking out operations

Claims Examples

HSB Construction Insurance in action

A hired-in trailer and excavator collided with a third party driver’s vehicle whilst in transit. Our loss adjusters declared the trailer beyond economical to repair and, taking into consideration the ongoing hire charges as well as repair costs, the same was decided for the excavator. The claim was settled directly to the hire company.
During the unloading of a five-colour lithographic offset printing press from a container lorry, the lifting frame slipped and allowed the printing press to fall 2.5m to the floor. Several machined surfaces within the press suffered significant damage, requiring the press to be returned to the manufacturer in Japan for repair.
A crane was being driven along a road when one of its tyres picked up a piece of debris which was then propelled into the vehicle's oil pipe, causing a crack. Oil began to escape through the cracked pipe, starving the transmission transfer box of oil and causing it to seize. This resulted in extensive damage to the gearing and bearings of the transmission transfer box.
