HSB Computer Insurance

In 2020, the working landscape changed significantly. Working from home has now become the new norm for millions of employees. As businesses look at the future, many are focusing on how agile working can be adopted as new working practices.

With less time spent working in designated offices and premises, what should businesses be thinking about in terms of managing computer equipment risks? Could agile working have left businesses underinsured?

HSB Computer Insurance is specifically designed to provide comprehensive cover for computer-related risks. Split into four sections of cover, our policy provides customers with the flexibility to choose the level of cover they need:

  • Section 1 - Hardware
  • Section 2 - Reinstatement of data
  • Section 3 - Increased cost of working
  • Section 4 - Virus, hacking and denial of service attack

Sections 2, 3 and 4 are optional covers that can be selected in addition to ‘Section 1 - Hardware’ to enhance the level of cover.

Also, Section 4 cover automatically extends to cover costs insured under Section 2 and extra costs insured under Section 3; if the additional cover or covers have been taken by the customer.

"In the longer term, as innovations in building materials are made, insurers may see an increase in defect risks as new materials and methods of construction are trialled in UK buildings."

HSB's John Nicholls contributed to an article in the CII's The Journal on the UK government’s Building Safety Bill; what it means for the construction industry and also for insurers from a risk perspective.
