Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Nancy Onken is executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

In this capacity, she heads the company’s Strategic Products Division, which is responsible for identifying, developing and marketing new insurance products.

Ms. Onken joined Hartford Steam Boiler as an assistant counsel in the legal department in 1989. In 1995, she was named director of claims, was promoted to vice president and general manager of claims in 1997, and to senior vice president and general manager of claims in 2002. She was named executive vice president in 2005 and assumed additional responsibilities as general counsel and corporate secretary in August 2008.

Ms. Onken is a member of the Board of Directors of HSB Group, Inc. (the parent company of Hartford Steam Boiler). She is also a member of the Board of Directors of TEGG Corporation (a franchisor of electrical preventative maintenance programs) and of Hartford’s United Way of the Capital Area.

Prior to joining Hartford Steam Boiler, Ms. Onken was an attorney with Hoberman & Pollack, P.C. in Hartford, Connecticut, specializing in commercial and insurance litigation.

Ms. Onken holds a bachelor’s degree from Smith College, a law degree from the Western New England College School of Law, and a master's in business administration in finance from the University of Connecticut.

Ms. Onken’s bar admissions include the State of Connecticut, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She is a member of the American Bar Association, and is vice chairperson for the bar’s claims administrative committee. She is also a past board member of the United Way of the Capital Area.
