Senior Vice President, Custom Accounts Division

David Mercier is senior vice president of the HSB IIC Custom Accounts division. He assumed his position in February 2017. He is also President of the HSB Specialty Insurance Company, and he serves on the boards of Munich Re Trading LLC and Munich Re Weather & Commodity Risk Holding Inc.

From 2011 through 2017, Mr. Mercier was senior vice president and chief underwriting officer responsible for HSB Group global underwriting operations. In 2008, he was named senior vice president and chief underwriting officer for HSB's Custom Accounts Division. In this capacity he led HSB’s Equipment breakdown field underwriting organization, as well as the company’s Specialty Re property group. 

In 2005, Mr. Mercier was appointed senior vice president of underwriting where he led the corporate underwriting referral process for high hazard accounts. He became vice president of referral underwriting in 2000, and previously served in a variety of underwriting management positions of increasing responsibility since joining HSB. 

Prior to joining HSB in 1990, Mr. Mercier held the roles of underwriting executive at Industrial Risk Insurers and regional director in the boiler and machinery division of Travelers Property and Casualty.

Mr. Mercier received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Connecticut and holds an Associate degree in risk management (ARM) designation.
