Act on Equal Participation of Men and Women in Private-Sector and Public-Sector Management Positions

Four years before the requirement became mandatory, Munich Re (Group) set itself the goal of increasing its quota of women in management positions in Germany to 25% by the end of 2020, within the framework of the commitment by DAX 30 companies (status as at December 2015: 23.5%). The quota is also to be expanded further internationally. Worldwide, the percentage of women in management positions in our Group is 30.8% (status as at December 2015). We are taking numerous steps and measures to help us accomplish our goals, and we measure our progress regularly. Improving opportunities for women throughout our organisation is the key to raising the percentage of women at the top management levels.

Within the framework of the Act on Equal Participation of Men and Women in Private-Sector and Public-Sector Management Positions, Munich Reinsurance Company uses the minimum statutory requirements as a basis to define the required  targets.

Munich Reinsurance Company already exceeds the Act's 30% minimum quota for men and women on the Supervisory Board.

The 20% target figure for women on the Board of Management was achieved by the end of the first period, 31 December 2015. The 20% target figure has been maintained for the second period, from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2020.

In Germany, women held 4.0% and 20.1% of positions in management levels 1 and 2 respectively by the end of the first period (30 June 2016). The management level 1 target figure of 3.9% was therefore exceeded marginally, while the figure for management level 2 was slightly shy of its target of 20.9%. Both deviations are a result of minor changes in the number of female managers in absolute terms and by organisational changes that have impacted on management positions.

The following targets have been set for the second period, based on the status quo at 30 June 2016:

  • Percentage of female staff at management level 1        4.0%
  • Percentage of female staff at management level 2        20.1 %


The period for achieving these targets runs from 1 July 2016 to 31 December 2020.
