Degree and vocational training in one

Combined professional training/study

As a highly ambitious school-leaver with an Abitur, you have the opportunity to test your skills in our combined professional training/study and vocational training programme. Parallel to traditional vocational training at the German Chamber of Commerce (IHK) to become a qualified insurance and finance practitioner (focus on reinsurance) you will obtain a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

You have two options:

  1. Economics at the Bundeswehr University (UniBW) in Munich-Neubiberg
  2. Business Mathematics with Actuarial Sciences at the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences

After two and a half years, you complete your Chamber of Commerce and Industry qualification; after three years, you obtain your parallel bachelor’s degree. The programme culminates with a Master of Science degree after just four and a half years. You complete your vocational and scholastic training in small project groups at the Berufsbildungswerk der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft e.V. (BWV, German Insurance Association for Vocational Training). Furthermore, after completing your Bachelor’s degree, you will also gain six months of valuable international experience at one of our more than 50 international locations.

During the vocational training phase – the first two and a half years – additional parallel training courses are offered frequently (e.g. three days per week at the company and two days at university). After completing the vocational training, you spend multiple-month phases exclusively at the company or the university.

Both the UniBW and the Rosenheim University offer project-based learning in small groups, in which active collaboration is both encouraged and required from the very beginning. As a result, your programme of study perfectly prepares you for everyday work at Munich Re.

What do I need for the combined professional training/study programme (AIS)?

Combining a complex Master’s degree with professional training is extremely demanding. For this reason, we expect above-average commitment and initiative from our AIS students, along with a high level of self-motivation and team spirit. You need a very good average score in your leaving school certificate (Allgemeine Hochschulreife) (2.0 or better) and very good grades in Mathematics and English; ideally, you will have taken advanced courses in Mathematics, Economics/Business Studies and English. Courtesy and good manners are second nature for you.
