1 Kilo PET, 2007

PET bottles, various sizes, melted
25 x 25 x 30 cm

Man’s relationship with nature in times of globalisation and environmental change is the key aspect of Tue Greenfort’s work. He uses installations and sculptures to remove the boundaries between politics, ecology, science and art and creates space for interdisciplinary and cross-media dialogue between sensuality, aesthetics, reasoned analysis and strategy.

At first glance, 1 Kilo PET resembles a formation from a prehistoric era. The off-white, mother-of-pearl sheen to the surface lends it an opulent air. But in reality it is everyday plastic waste. 17.5 kg of water are needed to produce a single kilogram of PET. Manufacturing the bottles therefore uses more water than the bottles could ever hold. Not to mention the emissions of environmental pollutants.
