Lives and works in Munich

Stephan Huber draws his visual motifs from sources from two worlds: from the form repertoire of our collective history with its pictorial symbols and metaphors, and from the world of everyday life with personal features. His sculptures, murals and installations, which often seem staged and tend to enchant the viewer at first glance, are full of clues. It is not clarity that is the determining element in Huber's work, but a juxtaposition of meanings. With this network of references and the playful use of illusion, Huber takes a stand against the dictates of autonomy of art.

In the map series, Stephan Huber designs a fictional world. The map, an objective carrier of information that provides evidence of the nature of our earth, becomes a descriptive instrument of his personal history. It is not geographical space that is described here; instead, an imaginary space is construed.
