Michaela Melián works in different artistic media. She develops multifaceted fields of memory that produce complex correlations based on historical and topographical references and associations. To achieve this, she seeks places and motifs, where history and memories are condensed.

During a car trip in and around Innsbruck, Melián photographed the motifs for the "Panorama" series of drawings inspired by the “Innsbrucker Riesenrundgemälde”, one of the last existing panoramic images of the 19th century. Her theme was the history – in the broadest sense of the term – of the landscape, the mountains, the roads and, indirectly, also of their inhabitants. For each photo, the artist created a drawing whose contours were not outlined with pencil or brush, but sewn with a sewing machine, stitch by stitch. A continuous thread outlines the silhouettes of mountains, streets, trees and buildings.
