Born 1939 in Berlin, Germany
Lives and works in Berlin and Iceland

Untitled, 2002

Acrylic on Alucobond
150 x 200 cm

Bernd Koberling's works are defined by his close rapport with nature. His large-scale, expressive images are based on watercolour sketches that he prepares in the landscape of Iceland. When transferring the motifs to acrylic, he reduces them to sparse islands and blends of colour that, at best, timidly stand out against the white background, or surrender to it.

The transparent paints that Koberling uses appear to simply reflect the light in the landscape: yellow patches of colour interspersed with fields of green, red and blue run together. Floral forms arbitrarily scattered across the work are created in the observer's fantasy.
