Pencil and acrylic lacquer
Staircase over 8 floors

Aribert von Ostrowski has been dealing with the interaction between image and language since the 1980s. Fragments of text, characters and pictograms are incorporated into his paintings and drawings, as is reflection on the context in which they once came into being. Reflection on the conditions under which art is produced and received is the foundation of his artistic work.

The mural that Ostrowski has painted for the stairwell of a Munich Re building is composed of a network of pencil lines and different lacquer colours. Complex line and space patterns as well as fragments of the title of the work, which was taken from the job advert of a company, are dispersed throughout the entire stairwell, coming together and refracting again like a kaleidoscope. The wavy lines of the grid and the rich colours are reminiscent of the aesthetics of the 1970s, the period in which the building was constructed.
