Live and work in Munich

kurz vor fünf/T, 2016/2017

LED Lightbox
127 x 240 cm

The “kurz vor fünf” (just before five) series illustrates the lives of various people on the same day, at the same time, in different major cities of the world, based on scenes staged in situ. Each work consists of 4290 continuous film stills, which present three minutes of decoded film, step by step.
To create a meeting point at the Munich location, the artistic duo developed two light boxes with motifs from this series from Los Angeles and Taipei. While the individual sequences can be followed in meticulous detail when viewed in extreme close-up, the further away the viewer stands, the more they merge into a largely abstract matrix. The time “kurz vor fünf” always refers to CET so that scenes recorded in California or Taiwan actually occur shortly before 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. respectively. This showcases the simultaneity of events at different locations in the world which, in an increasingly global society, also draws parallels with the modern world of work.
