Rupprecht Geiger

Born 1908 in Munich, Germany
Died 2009 in Munich, Germany

Berliner Rot I, 2005

74 x 80 cm

From the 1960s, Rupprecht Geiger fully devoted himself to the visualisation of colours, regarding colour as an autonomous value, freed of all representational constraints. The focus of his research was the colour red in all its manifestations. In form, he also chose the path of reduction. While he began by creating rather asymmetrically compressed ovals, in which the colour released seeks a shape, gradually, with time, the absolute forms of geometry such as circles and rectangles prevailed.
