2017 Illinois Moratorium Notice

HSB Actions to Comply with Illinois Insurance Dept. Requirements

In response to the recent flooding in Illinois, The Illinois Department of Insurance has issued Bulletin 2017-03. The following Illinois counties have been declared disaster areas: Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry.

As requested by the governor, Hartford Steam Boiler is taking the following actions:

  1. Any cancellation and non-renewal notices issued on or after July 12, 2017 on any in-force policy issued to an affected policyholder are withdrawn and affected policies are reinstated with no lapse in coverage. No new cancellation or nonrenewal notices will be issued until September 30, 2017, or later if deemed appropriate.
  2. Any other policy provisions that impose or require a time limit will be extended for at least 60 days from the date allowed or required under the policy (this includes but is not limited to submission of a claim or proof of loss, reporting of information or payments).
  3. Policies covering affected properties will not be cancelled or non-renewed due to an increase in the risk originally accepted or due to the geographic location of the risk.
  4. All actions taken to implement the requirements of the Bulletin will be posted on Hartford Steam Boiler’s website.
  5. Illinois consumers are hereby advised of the availability of the Illinois Department of Insurance for filing a complaint regarding any disaster-related dispute or issue. The toll-free complaint hotline is 1-866-445-5364, or complaints can be filed online at: https://mc.insurance.illinois.gov/messagecenter.nsf
