2018 Illinois Moratorium Notice

In response to a recent natural disaster in Illinois, the Illinois Department of Insurance issued Bulletin 2018-12 regarding significant storms in the State. The county of Christian has been declared a disaster area. In response, Hartford Steam Boiler is taking the following actions:

  • A moratorium on cancellations and non-renewals for notices issued on or after November 23, 2018 on any in-force policy is established. Hartford Steam Boiler will not issue any new cancellation or nonrenewal notices until January 23, 2019, or a later date if deemed reasonable.
  • An extension of any and all policy provisions and other requirements that impose a time limit for an insured or claimant to perform any act, including the submission of a claim or proof of loss, reporting of information, submission of bills or payment of funds is established. The extension shall continue for at least 60 days or longer if deemed reasonable.
  • Insurance policies covering affected properties will not be cancelled or nonrenewed due to increase in the risk originally accepted or due to the geographic location of the risk during the moratorium.
  • An extension of time to make repairs on affected property for 60 days if the repairs cannot be completed within the required time period under the policy or applicable statute is established.
