Sample parameters in the design of products:

  • Definition: aligned with social insurance definition, based on ADLs or similar criteria
  • Deferred benefit period: between 0 months and for example 5 years
  • Waiting period: 0-5 years, possibly graded by cause of claim, e.g. nil for accidental causes but 3 years for dementia
  • Premium payments: unlimited or for a fixed period
  • Claim payment period: unlimited or for a fixed period, immediate or deferred: payments as annuity, lump sum, or to cover defined costs

Dementia screening with the DWR (Delayed Word Recall) test:
  • 1.
    Read the 10 words below and construct sentences incorporating each word.
  • 2.
    Repeat the process.
  • 3.
    Occupy yourself for 10-15 minutes with something else.
  • 4.
    Recall as many of the words as possible.

5-10 words: no symptoms 4 words: indication of incipient dementia 0-3 words: clear indication of dementia
