MedNet: Keeping healthcare affordable

This initiative has been a key element in our overall health strategy since 1997. Munich Re has thus added administration to its core competencies of product design, rate calculation/pricing and risk selection and is now more or less a system provider.

The individual service elements can be accessed flexibly according to the requirements and strategy of the health insurer. As MedNet combines essential functions of the value chain, this innovative solution gives insurers essential support.

The MSOs assume core functions such as risk assessment, product development and managed-care services. The objective is to deploy coordinated methods and tools to manage the costs of medical care and at the same time to give insureds access to top-quality treatment.

Insurers benefit from lower invest- ment costs and better prices resulting from economies of scale. Munich Re has already established a strong presence in the Middle East in particular and in the Mediterranean region in order to support primary insurers.

The advantage of this model is that it can be transferred and adapted to suit other regional situations.
