Conclusion

The loss potential is very high in the food industry – particularly when large fire compartment areas with high structural and operational fire loads are involved and operational fire protection is inadequate at the same time. As shown by the losses in 2006, the fire services then reach the limits of their capacity.

It is more essential than ever before to include in the planning and construction phases a detailed discussion of the appropriate fire protection measures: structural, operational, and organisational.

We hope the years of record losses are now past, so that we can devote ourselves in future to effectively implemented loss prevention concepts in the food industry. Because combining risk-adequate protection concepts on the one hand and appropriate terms, conditions, and prices on the other is the only way to ensure that the risks in this branch of industry will continue to be insurable.
