NATURE
Around the globe, industrial and commercial installations often pose a safety
risk for people and the environment. Just how great the risk potential is in any
given case can be ascertained with NATURE, Munich Re's tool for evaluating
environmental risks. With only a few additional steps, you can then determine
an appropriate premium - because NATURE is fast, user-friendly and designed
for international use.
NATURE offers you these advantages:
A comprehensive database
The first question to be asked by any underwriter interested in insuring a company against environmental
impairment risks is: which of the company's processing, production, supply and/or storage installations
could have an impact on the environment? The answer can be found in NATURE, a database containing
more than 400 rated installation types, as well as each type's average environmental liability risk resulting
from its hazard potential for soil, air and water. The tool indicates not only the risks of leakage, fire and
explosion, but also the environmental risks posed by the emissions of normal operations. NATURE also lets
you record the names of the substances used or stored in the installations and their respective hazardous
properties, drawing from a database of hazardous properties for more than 10,000 substances.
Clear rating structure and risk-specific premium calculation
For each installation of environmental relevance, NATURE calculates a separate premium reflecting the risk
class, installation size and sum insured. The rating structure makes a basic distinction between storage and
production installations. Premium rates vary according to the risk class and installation capacity. NATURE
offers a high degree of flexibility, so insurers can adjust the premium rates in the tariff tables to suit their
specific needs. Companies can define uniform expense ratios, loading rates for higher sums insured and/or
fixed cover limits for their various units, while individual users can apply risk-specific loadings or discounts
reflecting the quality of the risk.
NATURE provides risk transparency
User-friendly electronic checklists aid you in entering all the parameters that play an important role in risk quality. These include, for example, site size, operational activities, past losses, previous pollution, subsoil conditions, natural hazards, neighbouring risks, adjacent bodies of water, protected areas, fire prevention and protection, plant security, installation security, management, organisational and technical safety measures, methods of exhaust-gas and waste-water treatment and the type and quantity of emissions into the atmosphere and bodies of water.
In short, NATURE offers you first-class service and flexibility.
