Siberian cold front Cooper has much of the European continent firmly in its grip. Overnight temperatures in Germany are also expected to be as low as -20°C in places by the end of the week, with daytime temperatures not rising above -6°C despite bright sunshine. These conditions will be accompanied by an icy east wind. In central and eastern Europe dozens of people have already frozen to death due to the cold spell and in Poland thousands of homes are without water.
