History of the CoCB
Following numerous activities involving genetic engineering in Life and Health, the Management Symposium in November 1999 with its "mobile gene lab" represented a first milestone in genetic engineering at Munich Re.
After the signal success of the symposium, the Board of Management subsequently formulated Munich Re's aim of becoming the insurance industry's opinion leader in the field of genetic engineering.
Since that event, Munich Re has advanced to become the industry's preferred contact for all things relating to genetic engineering. This is clearly reflected in the many invitations extended to us to attend events and to play an active part in various associations.
In the light of the rapid development seen in this field of technology, Munich Re has created a centre of competence comprising specialists from a a variety of areas of application in genetic engineering. The Centre of Competence for Biosciences was created through a resolution passed by the Board of Management on 23 April 2001. Following numerous preliminary discussions with all the units involved, the CoCB held its initial meeting in January 2002.
