Sustainability has not been "en vogue" at Munich Re only in the last few years. Let us share with you some key historical dates regarding our commitment to this important topic.
1974 Creation of Geoscience Research Group (now Geo Risks Research Department); statements on climate change and its impact in special publications (e.g. "Flooding").
1998 Participation in the Environmental Pact of Bavaria.
1998 EMAS certification for VICTORIA Versicherungs AG, the first insurance company in Europe to earn this distinction.
1999 Participation in the UNEP Insurance Initiative on sustainable development and the environment (UNEP Fi).
1999 Establishment of the environmental unit.
2000 EMAS certification for MR Munich.
2001 First environmental report, "Perspectives".
2001 Inclusion in the DJSI and FTSE4Good
2002 Evaluation of the consequences of climate change for Munich Re in three project groups: underwriting, asset management, and new products.
2003 Launch of the Munich Re Group's first SRI retail fund: MEAG "Nachhaltigkeit".
2003 Successful EMAS revalidation and first DIN EN ISO 14001 certification.
2004 Participation in the "renewables 2004" conference
2005 Going public of the Schinzler Foundation
2005 Going public of the Munich Re Foundation
2006 Signature of the UN Principles for Responsible Investment
