Training objectives

Trainees should acquire a solid knowledge of underwriting in their respective field. At the end of the training period they should be in a position to assess and process obligatory or facultative reinsurance business, and should know or be skilled in the following:

1. Professional skills

  • General functions and interplay between insurance and reinsurance
  • Function and use of reinsurance products
  • The classes of business handled by their divisional unit (basic knowledge of primary insurance), including policy design (particularly in the special classes of business)
  • Correspondence relating to underwriting
  • Processing simple insurance offers for the class of business
  • Shaping and administration of treaty wordings
  • All of the pricing tools used in their divisional unit
  • All of the interfaces that must be taken into account (other divisional units, Business Units, etc.)
  • General market conditions in their respective area
  • Analysis and evaluation of business trends

2. Methodological skills

  • All of the computer systems used in their respective divisional unit
  • Presenting the results of their work in a clear and comprehensible manner
  • Basic project management techniques
  • Making suggestions independently for decision-making

3. Interpersonal/social skills

  • Team work
  • Client-focused thinking
  • Conflict solving
  • Recognizing intercultural differences and acting accordingly
  • Accepting responsibility
