Career example: Sonja Bründl

Central Division: Accounting. Born in Munich in 1977. At Munich Re since 2002.

Having completed my bank training and business studies in Munich, I gained my first professional experience in this field and found my interest in business and my penchant for figures confirmed. I had done several internships during my studies, including one at DZ Bank, London, and one at Siemens, New York, which made me realise that I wanted to work for a global company.

Looking for a challenging career opportunity, I successfully applied for a junior accountant position at Munich Re. Here, I gathered valuable insurance knowledge on the job as well as through a series of in-house accounting seminars. Seeking further personal and professional development, I eventually decided to take on a new and varied field of responsibility: Preparing HGB and IFRS accounts for Munich Reinsurance Company's underwriting and non-underwriting activities. A six-months stint working on a project at Munich Re's subsidiary Great Lakes UK, London, provided additional interesting insights. Moreover, I am involved in a number of international projects relevant to accounting, such as "Gloria" and "Global Template". All this makes my work interesting and varied.

Last, but not least, I enjoy the work atmosphere: People at the company treat each other in a friendly and fair manner – irrespective of hierarchical level. This facilitates constructive collaboration and is essential to producing excellent results. I am proud to be a part of this effort.
